Since you want a critique, I can't really say no. I've seen the subject matter many, many times (as have all of us, more than likely) but this one stands out for a few reasons.
The first is the contrast of focus and its effect on the shot overall. The blurred body of the kitten seems to blur into the background, but its white color keeps it from truly fading from focus and makes the effect striking. The kitten's head in sharp definition makes the viewer pay attention to its stark, original markings and the intensity of its blue eyes, which are a whole subject in themselves.
The lighting and color choices are also very good. The sepia tones give the kitten's white fur a kind of radiance, but serve to soften the picture overall.
And finally, the subject itself is just beautiful. Sometimes we are reminded of just why animal photos are so popular here.
I think that it is the softness of this whole picture that strikes me. The colours, focus...everything about it epitomizes what we imagine when we think of kittens (We tend to forget their needle-like claws and crazy behaviour ). I think it also has a sense of vulnerability and fragility about it. In this picture he/ she looks timid but curious; there is an intensity in the stare that is heightened by the vivid blue of the eyes. A gorgeous image and a gorgeous kitten. What breed is it? He/ she looks a bit like a Birman but doesn't have the socks or markings on the face.
